Norge

nørge is a swiss/norweigan fragrance house exploring the intersection of nordic minimalism, ancient craft, and modern skin care.

our story

Nørge began as a small workshop in the Swiss Alps, guided by a question nobody in modern perfumery was asking anymore: what if fragrance was never supposed to be a spray?

For 4,000 years, cologne was pressed into skin as a solid balm of beeswax and oil. Egyptian priests carried it in stone jars. Napoleon kept a tin in his boot. Then, in the 1880s, industrial alcohol distillation went mass-market, and the format that had defined fragrance for four millennia was rebranded as outdated.

We think it was the wrong turn. So we went back.

Handmade tin

our craft

Every tin is made by hand, in small batches, in Switzerland.

It starts in a pot on a stove. Beeswax, shea butter and jojoba oil melted together until they run clear, then the essential oils blended in by hand — the ratios adjusted by nose, not by machine. The mixture is poured into tins one at a time and left to set overnight.

There is no supplier, no brief, no formula bought from a laboratory. Four ingredients, and a person deciding when it's right.

It's slower than it needs to be. That's rather the point.

Nordic scene

the ritual, restored

For most of human history, scent was solid.

Wax and oil, warmed on a fingertip and pressed into the skin. Egypt did it. Rome did it. The Norse made theirs from birch tar and pine resin. For four thousand years this was simply what fragrance was — something you carried, warmed, and wore close.

Then in the late 1800s alcohol became cheap, glass became cheaper, and the industry traded a craft for something it could produce by the gallon.

The spray bottle is the recent invention. This is the older one.

You warm a little on a fingertip and press it into your neck and wrists. Five seconds, first thing in the morning. Your own body heat carries it through the day.
